"What do you do with your imagination?"

At Active Imagination events, kids are encouraged to play out the vivid contents of their imaginations using play acting, animation, costumes, props, model-making, creative movement, storytelling, and film-making. Unlike many programs that introduce children to hands-on visual arts and digital media, Active Imagination focuses on interactive group activities and inspires kids to use pretend play and technical problem-solving as a means of making friends and building self-esteem.
KID TRANSLATION: "The stuff we do is AWESOME!"

AI offers families a supportive environment for your children to play, express themselves, and build lasting relationships.

Saturday AM, 10/29: Journey to the Underworld

In honor of Halloween, this workshop will take Active Imagineers on a death-defying, mythical journey across the threshold between the Lands of the Living and the Dead.

In the spirit of heroes who have dared to take the journey to the underworld alive, like Hercules, Inanna, Osiris, Adonis, and Cupid (yes! him, too), these boys will need to...
  • Sneak by the 3-headed dog, Cerebus
  • Give coins to Charon, the Ferryman, for the trip across the River Styx
  • Rescue their loved one & the lost treasure
  • Confront Hades
  • & Return to the Land of the Living...without falling for Hades' tricks
Each boy will create his own tale of woe, beginning by imagining something lost to the Underworld and the fake death he will assume to fool its guardians, and then adorn a costume befitting the journey. Together, all the boys gathered will practice the skills necessary for the journey, and then, in small groups or pairs, act-out their adventure.

Joining Phil again to facilitate these remarkable adventures will be Grant, who has taken on the role of team-builder and evil villain in past workshops. THANKS, GRANT!
